"Digital Experiments"

I've been working mostly in other, "more traditional" media such as cps and oil pastels for artwork ... so this can be considered to be my first, somewhat more decent digital piece. It's also the result of my first test run of GIMP. All comments/feedback welcome.

That's really cool! How did you do it? It looks like a painting. Really neat!

Thanks Honey Bee (like your alias! ),

Very sweet of you comment...

Good question, lol, I'm not sure. I had a reference photo next to my blank in GIMP, and started off by defining the overall shape of the face, filling in with broad strokes with the medium tone, and black fill for the hair. Reducing the brush size, I started drawing in the eyes, outline roughly the shape of the nose and mouth. Then comes dark tones on the face, shadows, and these had to be blended in (with the smudge tool.) After that, details like the eyes, mouth and highlights make entrance. To finish off, I streaked the hair with thin white strokes for hair highlights and blended these off. All of that took about eight hours, three hours one evening, and five the following morning.

3. "Cherry Tree (Ad Lib remix)"

Here's another experiment done in PS and GIMP, more like my usuals. Sorrie about the image quality... the original was 500x500 pixels and I had to do a resize to meet the upload requirements. Thanks for looking/commenting.

Here's another, of a parrot, done as a mini-exercise in Photoshop.

5. "Re: d i v i n i s"

Visually different from the colourful splashes, or Wali-style...
the d i v i n i s series. They were actually done more along the "traditional" way, with minimal digital manipulation for the first two below (Luna Livewire and vinis) and random spot filling for the third (wyrd).
