"A Mask In India"
 
   hai,
i am just joined today in this group. i introduce myself first , i am midhun kumar Basicaly i am from Kerala,India. i am interested in pencil drawing. i drawn lotes of carunes and others. here by i am attching one of my drawing this is actualy a Mask used in Kerala for a particular dance called "Kathakali" . please look into it and advice me how to do shadings using pencil and different types of shading techiniques.

hello
I wouldnt be bothered by shadows because you can give hint of volume and shadows also with line, and India has great art from the past and it is especialy strong in linear work, I think you can learn alot from your own tradition it is the proper place for start,
I would look all those beatiful miniature portraits of rajas and gods and try to look how they solved volume and shading and later how they used color
