Hello Mr.Antonov;
I was wondering if I could get some recomendations for
my finishing texture layer in this piece Mr.Antonov (and
other suggestions for future improvments). The second
color layer is dry, and I would appreciate some help in
making this painting a nice finished piece. Size is 9x12
inches
Thank again for your assitance.
God Bless
Doug

Hi , Doug:
Sorry for delay .
And I am congratulating you and your wife with the marriage
and wish you many many happy years together. I am not
sure if you like to return to painting routine during
your honeymoon but I have to do my duty, so hopefully
my comments about your painting progress will be not too
boring.
I am in the middle of my important commission and as soon
as I finish , I will post it up .
First thing I would like to mention, is that for last
color Layer you have too many texture details .
The light spots are too bright and you don't have enough
tonality room to work with in the Finnishing step .
For example, garlic skin already has some texture characteristics,
But there are performed with too much attention to details
and in the same time with the careless, in other words,
surface of garlic skin in this stage supposed to be smoother
and not that white.
Remember, we're doing next layer not to correct previous
one. But we are doing previous layer to make next layer
better.
Eggplant skin is executed well, tabletop ornament' Well
done, with only one minus: under final highlight, surface
preparation is supposed to have some blueishness .
Your carrots' leaves are little care less to me, some
part of them in the shadow is supposed to disappear in
the background, and at this point for us are important
only general forms without membranes.
It will be great if you would have photographic source
for this composition to take more careful look to the
garlic skin, carrots and other details. If not and you
have digital camera may be you can put some closed up
shots of subjects for more productive explanations.
I forgot to mention about the composition. In the future
you can leave more negative space around. Right now your
picture is horizontally too tight, you can get away with
this if you put an artificial shadow on the part of garlic
and on the part of eggplant.
As I see your major mistake is that you use too much whites
in the light spots.
Right now in the last color layer all lightest surfaces
are supposed to represent self color of objects without
texturising and highlights.
