"New to watercolors..."

Hi, I've been browsing these forums for a while before diving in. I've recently gotten into watercolor portraits (I draw pencil portraits). It really is my favorite type of paint, I love the beautiful fluid look, the texture, and how easy it is to work with. So far I have only done 2 paintings, and in monochrome. I love working in monochrome but I am also hoping to explore colors. Last weekend I went to Borders and looked through watercolor technique books, so now I realize what I did wrong in the second painting, why the guitar did not come out smoothly.

Here is my first portrait that I did in early 2000 when I was 14:
(And below it is one I did a couple of weeks ago)

Welcome to the forum E-Storm. Pardon my lazyness to spell your name completely. I like both of your painting but I like Mick better. What made you think that you did the guitar wrong? It looks fine to me. I have been contemplating to do a self portrait using WC, I guess it has to wait until I'm free from my commission commetments.

Now I'm happy to see other people post WC paintings, it used to be only me and studio225 but I guess she's inactive now. Hoping to see more from your works.

God bless.

Hi ElactricalStorm, Your water colours are looking good, I like the monochrome effect.......I also prefer the second portrait, and the loosness of it.........

Nature is not something that can be seen by the eye alone- it lies also within the soul, in pictures seen by the inner eye.
